Your gluteal muscles are the most superficial muscles of the posterior hip and thigh. They consist of three major parts — gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. While your glute max is vital for more explosive activities like running or jumping, the medius and minimus play an important role in stabilizing your pelvis. The activation of these along with what I like to call your ‘deep butt’ or deep six, are paramount during the action of narrowing your pelvis.
